The 6th SAARC Business Leaders Conclave has been successfully organized on 16-18 March 2018 in Kathmandu with the theme 'Unleashing Shared Prosperity through Economic Integration''.
The Conclave which was hosted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies in partnership with the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC-CCI) attended by Hon'ble Commerce and Economic Ministers of SAARC Member States, prominent business leaders, policy makers and think tanks from the region. More than 200 participants from different walks of life concerning trade, industry, services, infrastructure development, among others, participated in the meeting.
The SAARC Business Leaders Conclave was a flagship event that not only brought eminent business personalities from different corner of the region but also brought senior politicians, policymakers and think tanks from SAARC nations under same roof to have a constructive dialogue and discourse on promoting peace, stability, economic growth and enhancing connectivity and regional integration. Indeed, the Conclave remained as a unique fora that helped unite peoples from different segment of the society of the SAARC member states for constructive dialogue on advancing common economic interests in the region.
Established in early 1992, the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (the SAARC-CCI) is a constellation of the National Chambers/Federations of SAARC member states. As a Regional Apex Body of the business communities and industrialists from SAARC region, it is mandated for promoting trade, industry, investment, services, tourism and much more other economic issues. It is a matter of great pleasure to mention that SAARC-CCI, since its establishment in 1992, has been invariably working for creating conducive economic environment needed for promoting economic growth and prosperity in the region.
The Conclave was inaugurated by the Rt' Honb'le Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli on 16th March 2018. Honourable Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Mr. Matrika Prasad Yadav, Hon'ble Minister for Finance Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada, Hon'ble Minister for Economic Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan Mr. Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Hon'ble Minister for Commerce and Industries Mr. Humayoon Rasaw of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, SAARC Secretary General H.E. Amjad B. Sial, among others, participated in and opined their views in the Conclave. Several side events were also organized on different different issues relating to promoting intra-regional trade, enhancing connectivity, increasing regional investment and accelerating pace of economic growth in the region. The key note speakers of these side events included former Prime Minister of Nepal Hon'ble Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Hon'ble Minister for Finance Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada, Mr. Salman F. Rahman, H.E. Mr. Manjeev Singh Puri, Ambassador of Republic of India to Nepal, Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik, Former President, FPCCI, Pakistan, Mr. Marcky Hashim, Former President, SAARC CCI (Sri Lanka), Mr. Chandra Kumar Ghimire, Commerce Secretary, Mr. Suraj Baidya, President ofthe SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC-CCI), among others. The last session of the Conclave was the Ministerial Round where Hon'ble Ministers from Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan exchanged their views on unleashing investment for shared prosperity in South Asia.
